The hottest ticket in Washington, D.C. hits Los Angeles on Sunday as “Van Gogh’s Van Goghs: Masterpieces From the Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam” opens at the L.A. County Museum of Art. In a rare opportunity to view holdings from the Van Gogh Museum outside the Netherlands, 70 paintings by the Dutch Post-Impressionist, arguably the world’s most popular artist, will be on display in the museum’s new LACMA West facility. The exhibition will include famous works such as “Self-Portrait of an Artist” (1888) and “The Bedroom” (1888) as well as lesser-known works spanning the artist’s career.

The I Have a Dream Foundation will celebrate the “adoption” of a class of Pasadena-area first-graders with a Gospel Brunch at B.B. King’s blues club. The foundation, created in 1981 by multimillionaire Eugene Lang, offers a college scholarship to any student in an adopted class who graduates from high school. (This particular class is adopted by the Berg Foundation.) Actor and bass player Malcolm-Jamal Warner and bandleader Lionel Cole will be among the performers after a soul food brunch.

Ben Heppner, the British Columbia-born heldentenor who has sung major Wagner roles at the Metropolitan Opera, in Europe and, last summer, as Tristan in Seattle, makes his Orange County debut in recital at the Irvine Barclay Theatre. His program includes lieder by Beethoven and Richard Strauss, songs by Liszt and arias from Mozart’s “Die Zauberflote,” Wagner’s “Die Meistersinger,” Giordano’s “Fedora,” Weber’s “Der Freischutz” and Bizet’s “Carmen.” He will be accompanied by pianist Thomas Muraco.
