Quarterback Kyle Boller, the state player of the year from Newhall Hart High, announced he has committed to California.

The 6-foot-3 Boller passed for a state-record 4,841 yards and 59 touchdowns. He might be the most decorated incoming California recruit since the Bears signed running back Russell White of Encino Crespi in 1989.

“I’m excited,” said Boller, who picked the Bears over Oregon. “I fell in love with the campus. The players were nice and the coaches were awesome. I’m going to have an opportunity like everybody else [to start], and they’re going to play the best guy.”
