Women Activists to Discuss Role, Vision for Future

Share

From staunching bloodshed in the Middle East to wrangling over brush clearance policies at Los Angeles City Hall, four women with long activist resumes will discuss their visions for the future at a Tuesday night forum.

The panel will include Galia Golan, a professor at Hebrew University in Jerusalem and a leader of the Israeli Peace Now movement. Golan will be joined by City Councilwoman Laura Chick, who represents the southwest Valley; Donna Bojarsky, a co-chairwoman of LA Works, an organization that runs volunteer projects, and Georgia Mercer, a trustee of the Los Angeles Community College District.

The panel, sponsored by the Jewish Federation/Valley Alliance, will be moderated by Marlene Adler Marks, a columnist for the Jewish Journal of Greater Los Angeles.

The women, billed as “movers and shakers” by the federation, will tackle such questions as the differences between male and female activism and where activists should focus their energy as the next century dawns.

“We’re always looking for motivation and inspiration and re-energizing the community,” said Barbara Creme, director of the Valley Alliance’s community relations committee. “Perhaps there will be some new ideas.”

The event, which includes a dessert reception, begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Bernard Milken Jewish Community Center, 22622 Vanowen St., West Hills. Admission is $12 per person. For reservations, call (818) 464-3219.
