The Orange County chapter of the American Cetacean Society’s “Day of the Dolphin” event Saturday offers the chance to look for and observe coastal bottlenose dolphins. Participants must attend an orientation meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Costa Mesa Neighborhood Community Center, 1845 Park Ave.

The event helps scientists assess the dolphin population off the Orange County coast. Volunteers will be positioned at 13 stations along county beaches from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and can sign up for two hours or more of observation. Information: (714) 534-5177.
