Parcells Needs Rest, Passes on Pro Bowl
New York Jet Coach Bill Parcells will not coach the AFC in the Pro Bowl in Honolulu on Feb. 7, on the advice of his doctor.
Parcells underwent bypass surgery after the 1990 season and Jet team physician Elliot Pellman said an examination of Parcells after the Jets’ loss to Denver in the AFC title game showed Parcells “clearly was showing the physical effects of the long season.”
Parcells’ place at the Pro Bowl will be taken by Bill Belichick, the Jets’ assistant head coach.

Dom Capers became an employee of Tom Coughlin, putting to rest the debate over which coach came out ahead in the 1995 expansion battle between the Carolina Panthers and Jacksonville Jaguars.
Capers, fired last month as coach of the Panthers, will serve as Coughlin’s defensive coordinator with the Jaguars. He replaces Dick Jauron, who left after four seasons to coach the Chicago Bears.
The Jaguars still need an offensive coordinator.
