Lavin to Bruins: Don’t Get Comfortable

Coach Steve Lavin, sensing that his Bruins might be feeling too good about themselves after the impressive showing at Louisville, did his best to take them down a notch Tuesday.

Lavin stopped the workout in Pauley Pavilion several times to yell at some players and make them do extra running.

“Today was just to remind them again [about always working hard] and to turn up the climate on a competitive environment that needs to be there every practice,” he said.

“There’s a lot of days where, because you’re young, you don’t always understand the level of intensity you’ve got to bring as a habit, that you have something every single day.

“It’s human nature that when you have a certain level of success, complacency sets in. You have that comfort level that comes in. As a coach, you’re always concerned that they remain hungry, that they don’t allow that to happen.”

His raised voice made the point.

“He’s been worse,” guard Baron Davis said. “Coach has his days. But I don’t know what it is. Guys didn’t bring it today.”

The sprained ankle that knocked Dan Gadzuric out of the Louisville game has improved and the starting center is expected to be in uniform Thursday at Washington State. If he doesn’t play then, he probably will Sunday afternoon at Washington.

Coming up: Thursday at Washington State, Sunday at Washington.
