Silver Charm Heads Crowded Donn Field
Silver Charm won’t be lacking for company when he tries for his second win of 1999 in the $500,000 Donn Handicap on Saturday at Florida’s Gulfstream Park.
Eleven other horses were entered Wednesday morning to challenge the 5-year-old gray in the Donn, the first race of the “National Thoroughbred Racing Assn. Champions on Fox” series.
Owned by Bob and Beverly Lewis and trained by Bob Baffert, Silver Charm drew the outside box and will carry high weight of 126 pounds, one more than when he won the San Pasqual Handicap at Santa Anita on Jan. 9.
Looking for his 13th victory in 21 starts, Silver Charm will be favored against a field in which his main rivals will be Sir Bear and Puerto Madero.
