COSTA MESA

Residents who attended a community meeting this week were divided on whether the proposed 19th Street and Gisler Avenue bridges would be a blessing or a curse to the city. Those opposed to the 19th Street bridge reiterated their quality-of-life concerns, but their views were countered by a group of residents who said the bridge is economically necessary.

The meeting was one of four held this week to gauge residents’ views on whether the bridges should be deleted from a regional master plan. Costa Mesa was the impetus of the $200,000 cooperative study, also involving the Orange County Transportation Authority, Newport Beach, Huntington Beach and Fountain Valley. More public meetings will be held before a draft environmental impact report is released this summer.
