Group Suspends Pet Adoptions for Holiday
Although it will be open, the Humane Society in Ojai will not make any pets available for adoption through Tuesday because of the tumultuous conditions the Fourth of July brings.
“It’s difficult enough [for animals] going into a new home, but with loud celebrating, it’s not safe or a good idea,” said Tim Dewar, director of public relations.
Dewar encouraged pet owners to keep their pets indoors this holiday weekend and to make sure they have identification tags.
“This is a very important time of year for us,” he said, explaining more animals are lost around this holiday than in any other period. The fireworks and partying that accompany Fourth of July make it unsafe and unnerving for pets, he said.
