Making sure toilets flush properly tops the concerns of the city’s Infrastructure Committee, a preliminary report presented at last week’s meeting shows. But plenty of work remains to be done before the group makes a final decision on prioritizing about $1.3 billion in infrastructure needs over the next 20 years. City consultant Gary Dysart isn’t surprised that improving the city’s sewer system means so much to the committee members. Undersized and deteriorated sewer lines carry substantial consequences, such as ground contamination and backed-up toilets, he said.

Other high-ranking concerns include improving flood control facilities, residential streets, sidewalks and curbs, the report states. Maintaining old parks and constructing new ones ranked relatively low.
