LA HABRA
Capt. Dennis Kies of the Baldwin Park Police Department has been selected as La Habra’s new police chief. Kies, 25-year police veteran, was chosen after a four-month search. He succeeds former Chief Steven H. Staveley, who left the department in January to head up the California attorney general’s division of law enforcement. Kies, who has served in Baldwin Park for 21 years, has been a captain since 1990 and was the department’s interim chief from July 1996 to June 1998.
