The Outdoor Children’s Theater at Saddleback College will present “Schoolhouse Rock Live!,” a musical based on the Emmy Award-winning 1970s series “Schoolhouse Rock.” The animated series used music and dance to teach grammar, math, science, history, social studies and political science.

The musical centers on Tom, a young teacher who gets the jitters before his first day in the classroom. After going through his teaching plans, he turns the television to “Schoolhouse Rock.” Characters from Tom’s mind emerge performing musical numbers, from “Conjunction Junction” to “Interplanet Janet.” The characters ease Tom’s nervousness, convincing him he has what it takes to be a teacher.

“Schoolhouse Rock Live!” plays July 15 to 18, July 22 to 25, July 29 to 31 and Aug. 1, at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The musical is aimed at children ages 3 through 11--and those over 20. Admission is $6. For tickets and information, call the Fine Arts Ticket Office at (949) 582-4656.
