TODAY-WEDNESDAY VS. SEATTLE

Share

Schedule: 7 tonight; 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

* Television: Fox Sports West, both games.

* Radio: KLAC (570) and XPRS (1090), both games.

* Pitching matchups: Gil Meche (major league debut) vs. Mike Fyhrie (first major League start); Jamie Moyer (8-4, 4.74 ERA) vs. Steve Sparks (3-5, 4.98) Wednesday.

* Last series: The struggling Angels went into their final series at the Kingdome two weeks ago and took two of three. In the opener, the Angels scored three runs in the eighth and added one in the ninth to preserve a 4-2 victory. In the second game, Ken Hill left after two innings with tightness in his shoulder and the Mariners went on to win, 8-3. Mo Vaughn had five hits, including two home runs, and drove in six as Anaheim won the finale, 12-7.

* About the Mariners: The Mariners have kissed the Kingdome goodbye, and Manager Lou Piniella is probably hoping Safeco Field, which opens July 15, is a pitchers’ park. Despite having an awe-inspiring lineup, poor pitching has kept the Mariners hovering around .500 all year. The only standout in the staff has been Jamie Moyer, who overcame a terrible start and is 8-4.
