In Kristin Hohenadel’s article “End of a Brechtian Era” (July 4), she states that Bertolt Brecht was Jewish. He was not.

According to Martin Esslin, eminent theater critic and historian, in his biography “Brecht--The Man and His work,” Brecht’s father was Catholic and his mother was Protestant; Brecht was christened and brought up as a Protestant and was strongly influenced by the language of Luther’s Bible.
