PLACENTIA
The children of a Placentia man struck and killed by a car as he crossed Chapman Avenue on New Year’s Eve may file a wrongful-death lawsuit against the city, their attorney said. Manuel Ayala was crossing Chapman Avenue at Melody Lane on Dec. 31 when he was hit. He died eight days later. The City Council last week rejected three $50,000 claims filed May 20 by Ayala’s children, who alleged that the city knew about the dangerous conditions at the site. But city officials said they are not responsible.
Although city officials rejected the claim, the Traffic Safety Commission decided June 21 that a signal is needed at the intersection. The proposal is expected to go before the City Council on July 20. If approved, the signal would cost $50,000 to $70,000.
