Network Associates Settles Patent Suit
Network Associates Inc., the No. 1 maker of security software, said it settled a patent lawsuit against rival ISS Group Inc. that was intended to block ISS from selling its flagship product. The settlement has no adverse effect on either company’s business or finances, the companies said in a joint statement. Terms weren’t disclosed. A little more than a year ago, Network Associates sued ISS Group, asking a federal court to bar its rival from selling its RealSecure software. RealSecure detects hackers and other unauthorized users who break into computer systems. Shares of Network Associates jumped $1.44, or 8%, to close at $19.50, on speculation that the company will be acquired by a larger competitor. ISS Group fell $1 to close at $37. Both trade on Nasdaq.
