Edward B. Double, a retired oil field business manager for Baker International, has died at the age of 85.

Double, who died Saturday, was born June 5, 1914, in Los Angeles.

In 1942, he worked in Hawaii repairing destroyers that had been damaged during the attack on Pearl Harbor.

When he returned after the war, he worked in the oil field and lived in Alaska and throughout California.

He married Lois in 1965, and the family moved to Ventura four years later.

After years of working in the oil fields, drilling wells and working on rigs, he became district manager at Baker International. Double retired in 1984.

When his wife became ill in 1986, he devoted the next 10 years to her care and was her constant companion. Daughter Beverly Hook said he took very good care of her mother.

She also said her father was always very friendly and outgoing. “He never met a stranger,” she said.

Before his retirement, he was active with the Masons. He was a Master Mason for more than 50 years and was a member of Poinsettia Lodge No. 633 in Ventura.

In addition to his daughter, he is survived by a sister, Bernardine Everette of Fullerton, two granddaughters and two great-grandchildren.

Double was preceded in death by his wife of 31 years.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children or a favorite charity.
