Cooper Nominated for Federal District Court

Superior Court Judge Florence-Marie Cooper has been nominated by President Clinton to serve on the Federal District Court in Los Angeles, it was announced Wednesday.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, (D-Calif.) recommended Cooper’s appointment April 30, and the White House formally announced the selection Wednesday.

Cooper, whose appointment must still be confirmed by the U.S. Senate, has spent her entire legal career in Los Angeles. She served as a research attorney for former Superior Court Judge Arthur Alarcon, as a deputy city attorney and then spent seven years as a Superior Court commissioner.

In 1990, Cooper was appointed as a Municipal Court judge. Two years later, she was elevated to the Superior Court, where she presided over criminal and civil trials. In 1996, Cooper was chosen Judge of the Year by the Los Angeles Criminal Court Bar Assn.
