Shanawi Ends 2 1/2-Year Drought

Shanawi overtook pacesetter Old El Paso on the final turn and won Wednesday’s $49,000 feature race at Hollywood Park by 5 1/2 lengths, ending an 11-race losing streak over nearly 2 1/2 years.
Ridden by Garrett Gomez and carrying 122 pounds, Shanawi covered 1 1/2 miles on turf in 2:26 2/5 and paid $7, $4.20 and $3.
The win was the fifth in 32 lifetime starts for Shanawi and was worth $29,400, raising his career earnings to $365,659.
