Housemate Arrested in Man’s Stabbing
A 23-year-old man was in critical condition after being stabbed Sunday morning, allegedly by a housemate.
Oxnard police took Jose Luis Alvarez, 20, who lives in the 100 block of South Juanita Avenue, into custody in connection with the stabbing of Alfredo Altamirano. Altamirano, who suffered several stab wounds to his torso, is at St. John’s Regional Medical Center.
Officers responded to a 911 call at the house at 6:30 a.m. and found Altamirano in the garage of the residence. A weapon was recovered at the scene, police said.
Police had not determined a reason for the assault and said the incident is not gang related.
Separately, an 18-year-old who was stabbed at a Fillmore party early Saturday remained in critical condition Sunday, although he had been moved out of the intensive care unit at Santa Paula Memorial Hospital, nursing supervisor Damian Pulido said.
Jose Villalvazo Jr. was stabbed in his right side and also received minor cuts during the altercation, which occurred after a fight broke out, authorities said.
There have been no arrests in that case, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.
