Can nightclub denizens groove in the midday sun? We’ll find out at the opening of “Discoveries,” a series mounted by “electropreneurs” Ritual Events to showcase futuristic jazz, deejay culture, Latin rhythms and cosmic frequencies. On the bill are poet Ursula Rucker, electronic music pioneer Spacetime Continuum, Dego of the English duo 4Hero, U.K. percussionist Snowboy, Afro Cuban percussionist Bobby Matos, Latin soul band the B-Side Players and more.

“Treasures of the Last Russian Emperor,” an exhibit featuring 430 rare Russian artifacts, opens at the Queen Mary. On loan from the Russian Museum of Ethnography in St. Petersburg, the exhibit displays gifts to the last tsars and emperors of Imperial Russia from the ethnic peoples throughout the vast and diverse Russian Empire. These treasures date primarily from the 18th and 19th centuries. The collection, valued at over $20 million, includes such items as jewelry, costumes, armaments, photographs and cultural folk art.
