Inmate Who Fled Work Site Captured
A 23-year-old inmate who escaped Monday from a work assignment in Camarillo was captured Thursday after deputies saw him riding a bicycle in Ventura, authorities said.
Michael Allen Sugden was arrested about 11:30 a.m. after a short foot chase by deputies in the 1100 block of Pierpont Boulevard, Senior Deputy Kim Garrett said. Sugden escaped while working at the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Training Academy in Camarillo.
Deputies found Sugden during a surveillance operation that was set up Thursday morning after authorities received a tip Sugden was in the Pierpont area.
When he walked away from his minimum-security assignment at the training academy at Camarillo Airport, Sugden was serving a two-month sentence for burglary.
On Thursday night he remained jailed without bail on suspicion of escape and resisting arrest, a deputy at the jail said.
