COSTA MESA
Two residents were arrested in a raid last week at a Rutgers Drive home where police found marijuana plants and a partially built pipe bomb. John Peace, 51, pleaded not guilty to drug and bomb-making charges Monday at Harbor Justice Center. He is being held in Orange County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail. Also arrested was 49-year-old Douglas Comstock, who was charged with cultivating marijuana. Comstock posted $10,000 bail and awaits arraignment.
Investigators from several law enforcement agencies, including Costa Mesa and Newport Beach police departments, served a search warrant Thursday evening on Peace’s home in the 2300 block of Rutgers Drive. Police found about a half-ounce of methamphetamine and, when they entered the back portion of the home, several marijuana plants. Police also discovered a partially-built pipe bomb in one of the bedrooms.
