Jamboree Instruction

* Re “Scouts Jam Park for Jamboree,” May 23.
How come Sunday’s Valley [edition] showcases 12-year-old boys (in the Boy Scouts) being taught how to use bows and arrows and tomahawks?
These are not just instruments of sport. They are weapons. An archer uses the same aiming skills as a gunman. A tomahawk thrower is also learning how to wield an ax. And neither bows and arrows nor tomahawks will show up in a metal scanner. With all that’s happening in our schools, I didn’t find this Boy Scout feature uplifting.
