Gang Injunctions
* In your editorial, “Injunction Isn’t Enough,” May 30, you argue that injunctions against gangs are not going far enough. In fact, this tactic is going too far in that it is unconstitutional. These injunctions infringe upon the guaranteed right of peaceful assembly.
While it may be argued that these gangs do not assemble peacefully, they are being denied the right to do so by these injunctions. There are other, less unconstitutional methods of limiting gang violence.
To stop gang violence, the Los Angeles Police Department should get off of its collective butt and arrest gang members when they act illegally and not resort to the totalitarian tactics of denying peaceful assembly.
