Garcia to Defend Flyweight Title

Share

Isidro “Chino” Garcia of Los Angeles will make the third defense of his North American Boxing Assn. flyweight title tonight at the Arrowhead Pond against Antonio Ruiz of Los Angeles. Garcia (17-1-1, four knockouts), the World Boxing Organization’s No. 2 contender, had a sizable lead on Ruiz two months ago at the Great Western Forum, but an accidental head butt in the fourth round cut Garcia, 23, and forced the ringside physician to stop the bout. It was ruled a technical draw. Ruiz (18-15-5, eight knockouts) has fought for the WBO title twice against Carlos Salazar, fighting to a draw the first time and losing a unanimous decision the next time.

In the co-main event, Antonio Ramirez (13-1-4, 10 knockouts) of the Dominican Republic and Julio Cesar Sanchez-Leon (17-9, 12 knockouts) will fight for the vacant NABO junior lightweight title. The undercard begins at 7:15 p.m., the co-main event at 8 and the main event at 9.
