Tim Leiweke, president of Staples Center, is scheduled to speak today on the role the new arena, currently under construction, will play in helping to revitalize downtown Los Angeles. Leiweke, who also is president of the L.A. Kings hockey team, plans to explain to members of the Town Hall Los Angeles issues forum his vision of the state-of-the-art arena as an anchor for economic growth in the stagnant neighborhood surrounding the arena and the L.A. Convention Center. Developers are eyeing property adjacent to the arena as a site for a hotel and entertainment complex. The Kings, along with the Lakers and Clippers, are expected to play next season’s home games at the arena, scheduled to be completed by October.
