Barbara Margaret Leedy; Retired Nurse

Barbara Margaret Leedy, a retired registered nurse, died at home in Oxnard on Thursday. She was 75.

Leedy was born Sept. 4, 1923, in San Francisco. Shortly after her first birthday, her family moved to Huntington Park, where Leedy graduated from Huntington Park High School.

During World War II, Leedy was in the Hospital Corps for the Navy. While stationed in San Leandro, she met her husband-to-be, Wallace, who also was in the corps. The couple married on July 1, 1945.

Leedy attended Fresno State University for two years and nursing school for three years. After becoming a nurse, she moved to Woodland Hills and worked for Encino Hospital.

Her husband said they raised Arabian horses and were members of the San Fernando Valley Arabian Horse Club. Leedy enjoyed riding in the Santa Monica Mountains.

Leedy lived in Woodland Hills for 18 years before moving to Oak Park. In 1998, she moved to Oxnard to be closer to her daughter, Dawn.

Leedy is survived by her husband, Wallace of Oxnard; a daughter, Dawn Guest of Oxnard; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Pierce Bros. Valley Oaks Mortuary in Westlake.
