Well, at Least Dodgers Have Everyone Talking

Share

I think one of the worst trades in recent Dodger history was when they traded away their all-star catcher. (And I’m not talking about the Piazza fiasco.)

Trading Gold Glover Charles Johnson and the speedy Roger Cedeno, who leads the league in steals, for Todd Hundley, who couldn’t throw out my grandmother trying to steal second base, is one of Kevin Malone’s worst moves.

Davey Johnson tries to defend Hundley by saying his pitchers are responsible for keeping runners close, but Johnson was also the one who said a “village idiot” could win with the talent on this team. The real village idiot is anyone who believes this over-hyped, underachieving group of losers is going to win the World Series.

Kevin Malone says he has been reading the Bible. Hey, Kevin, here’s another book you should be reading. It’s called, “Hiring a Catcher Who Can Throw Out a Runner Trying to Steal Second.”

When he was hired, I thought I read that Davey Johnson would be a good manager for the Dodgers because he would kick them in the butt when they needed it.

They need it now.

I know the Dodgers have been playing ugly, but do they have to look ugly in those atrocious blue jerseys and ridiculous light-billed caps?

Perhaps the Dodgers could use some of the money saved by firing the $45-a-game batting practice pitchers to put a fresh coat of paint on the “Think Blue” sign on the hill behind left field.

What the baseball world knows and what we must accept is that the Dodgers are not some overpaid bunch of players, but a superb .500 baseball team.
