Kudos to The Times for printing “When Rhetoric Detaches from Facts to Back It,” May 16. In this article, Cal State Northridge Professor of Economics Shirley Svorny refutes clearly Mayor Richard Riordan’s rhetoric regarding San Fernando Valley cityhood.
Point for point, the professor’s message is the same--no evidence exits to support the arguments, which are touted by city officials, that terrible things will happen if the Valley obtains independence.
The Times makes no secret about its disfavor of Valley cityhood, but still upholds tenets of responsible journalism by including this comprehensive perspective.
