Martinez Contributes RBI in South’s Victory

Katella senior Mike Martinez drove in a run as the South defeated the North, 8-5, at the 30th California State All-Star Series Saturday at Cal State Fullerton.

Martinez, who hit .444 with 19 RBIs this season, produced his run-scoring single in the sixth inning, giving the South a 7-1 lead.

The South scored four runs in the first inning, including three on a home run by David Bagley of Rancho Bernardo. Anthony Reyes of Whittier California gave up one run in four innings to earn the victory.

The three-game series, which features players from the Southern, Los Angeles and San Diego sections against players from Northern California sections, concludes at 11 today at Cal State Fullerton. The South defeated the North, 6-5, on Friday.

Martinez, who was 12-1 with a 2.55 earned-run average this season, is expected to pitch in the series finale, but a decision on the starter will not be made until today.
