IDs at Movies

Re “Carding Junior at the Flicks,” editorial, June 11: I have to chuckle at the big deal made out of enforcing the age restriction on R-rated movies. Once upon a time theater owners did enforce age restrictions. I remember being 16 in 1970, when my mother dropped off some friends and me at the local theater to see “Woodstock.” We were turned away at the ticket counter because the movie was rated R and we were not yet 17.
I have also seen ushers today check tickets at the entrance to each theater. It only makes business sense to ensure that patrons are not buying one ticket and spending the day seeing multiple movies. I also don’t believe there would be any increase in wait times in line. How long does it take to show an ID?
