Sheahen Makes Hall of Fame

Al Sheahen, a masters’ track competitor and editor and publisher of the Van Nuys-based National Masters News, has been elected to the USA Track & Field Masters Hall of Fame.

Sheahen, a Sherman Oaks resident, is credited with developing age-graded tables, which are used worldwide for track and field events, road races and racewalks.

He is past president of the Southern California Masters Track & Field Committee.

BASEBALL

* Outfielder Nick Phillips of Canoga Park has committed to UC Davis.

Chatsworth High coaches Tom Meusborn and Matt LaCour will conduct a baseball camp for athletes 8-15 from June 28-July 2 at Chatsworth. Cost is $80.

GOLF

* Nancy Abiecunas of Fort Collins, Colo., beat Anne Lee of Northridge on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff to win the girls’ division of the Las Vegas Founders’ Legacy Junior tournament in Henderson, Nev.

Lee finished at 70-73-72--215 in the American Junior Golf Assn. event at the Legacy Golf Club.

Hana Kim of Encino shot 75-73-75--223 and tied for fifth and Ina Kim of Encino finished eighth at 75-78-74--227.

Roy Moon of Simi Valley tied for 24th in the boys’ division at 77-73-74--224.

* Helen Knight won the women’s club championship for the 37th time in 42 years at El Caballero Country Club in Tarzana, beating Lynn Edelson by four strokes.

Knight won the title 32 consecutive years, from 1957-1989. She also won in 1991 and began another streak in 1996.
