Divers Find Body of Girl Who Drowned
Divers in Manhattan Beach recovered the body of a 12-year-old Los Angeles girl Saturday who was hit by a wave and swept away while swimming with friends a short distance from shore, lifeguards said.
The body of Theresa Robertson was found just before 1 p.m. in about 25 feet of water about 250 yards from the shoreline near 13th Street, said lifeguard Capt. Tracy Lizotte.
Robertson and three friends, who had taken a bus to the beach, were playing in waist-deep water Friday about 20 feet offshore. The group was hit by a wave and pulled into a deep drop-off, authorities said.
Three of the girls made it back to shore, but they lost sight of their friend.
