Author Stephen King Stable After Surgery

Author Stephen King was alert and in good spirits after surgery for injuries suffered when he was struck by a van while walking along a highway near Lovell, Maine. King was treated for a collapsed lung, multiple fractures of the right leg and hip, and a cut on his scalp. He remained in serious but stable condition, said a spokesman for Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
