A 21-year-old resident was shot to death late Sunday night in what police say appears to be a gang-related shooting.

Police responded to a 10:15 p.m. call and found the body of a man identified as Arnulfo Ordonez in an apartment on the 300 block of South Garnsey Street.

Ordonez apparently died from a gunshot wound to his upper torso, said Santa Ana Sgt. Raul Luna.

Police wouldn’t say whether more than one shot was fired and wouldn’t provide more details. But Luna said the shooting was being investigated by the gang unit rather than homicide officers.

A group of men loitering in front of the complex at the time of the shooting were detained by officers and later released. “If they had been armed, we probably would have taken someone into custody,” Luna said.
