Pond Delays Plans to Add More Luxury Suites

The Arrowhead Pond has delayed plans to add luxury suites for at least a year.

With a waiting list for the current 84 suites, Pond officials had hoped to build up to 12 more in time for the Mighty Ducks’ 1999-2000 season. The project cannot proceed until Congress acts on pending legislation to revise the Americans with Disabilities Act, since certain areas targeted for suite expansion might coincide with areas providing disabled seating, under the revised law.

Ogden Corp., the New York-based company that operates the arena, is working with Congress on the legislation, Pond General Manager Tim Ryan said. With the legislative process extending past the spring target for completion, Ryan said it is no longer feasible to consider expansion this summer. The city of Anaheim and the Walt Disney Co. also would have to approve the expansion before construction could begin.

Additional suites could generate additional revenue for Ogden, which reports losing millions each year since the Pond opened in 1993.
