Sandstrom, Ferraro Exposed to Draft

The Mighty Ducks’ Tomas Sandstrom and the Kings’ Ray Ferraro were among the players exposed to the NHL expansion draft, as teams submitted protected lists to the league Tuesday.

The Atlanta Thrashers will select 26 players, one from every team except the Nashville Predators, on Friday.

Sandstrom, an unrestricted free agent, had 15 goals and 32 points last season despite missing 24 games because of a broken left wrist. Duck officials were not expecting to re-sign him.

The Ducks also made enforcers Stu Grimson and Jim McKenzie available, as well as forward Ted Drury and defenseman-forward Pascal Trepanier. Grimson has one year left on a contract that will pay him $500,000. General Manager Pierre Gauthier said that money didn’t enter into the decision process on any player left unprotected.

Ferraro had 13 goals and 31 points last season but is also an unrestricted free agent. Left wing Vladimir Tsyplakov and defenseman Garry Galley were among the other Kings left unprotected. The Kings did protect defenseman Aki Berg, who spurned their contract offers and played in Finland last season.
