In director Richard Brooks’ moralistic 1966 adventure “The Professionals,” a group of mercenaries rides into Mexico to retrieve a rich man’s kidnapped wife. Lee Marvin, Burt Lancaster, Robert Ryan and Woody Strode play the soldiers of fortune recruited to save Claudia Cardinale from bandit-revolutionary Jack Palance. Ultimately, the hired guns adhere to a Hemingway-esque code of honor in this big, brawling and fun western.
