Norm Walker, a Simi Valley school trustee and chief of staff to Assemblyman Tom McClintock (R-Northridge), announced Friday that he will run for his boss’ seat next year when the legislator is forced to step down because of term limits.

Walker will leave McClintock’s office at the end of the month to campaign for the 2000 election and avoid conflicts, he said in a news release.

“Working for Tom McClintock has been a great experience for me and I appreciate the opportunity to get to know this district even better than I did before,” said Walker, a former private school administrator.

McClintock is running for the state Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Cathie Wright (R-Simi Valley).

Walker said his campaign will stress education, “family-friendly” legislation, improving the business climate in California and reducing the tax burden on families.

The 38th Assembly District includes Fillmore and Simi Valley as well as parts of Los Angeles County.
