Motorcyclist Killed After Crashing Into Pickup Truck
A motorcyclist who witnesses say they saw speeding regularly in the area was killed this week in Studio City when his cycle struck a pickup truck.
Andrew Christopher Karatsonyi, 22, of Studio City died after his motorcycle hit the side of the truck, which was coming out of an apartment complex.
The accident occurred shortly after 9 p.m. on Whitsett Avenue near the entrance to the Studio City Golf and Tennis Club. Investigators said the motorcycle was apparently traveling at high speed on northbound Whitsett.
Karatsonyi suffered massive trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene, said Los Angeles City Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.
The driver of the pickup, who was not identified, was taken by paramedics to St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank with minor head injuries.
A passenger in the truck was not injured, officials said.
Investigators at the scene interviewed witnesses who recognized the victim as someone they had seen speeding in the area on previous occasions, said Det. Greg Pfeifle of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division.
Karatsonyi was wearing a helmet, Pfeifle said.
