VISTA Bus Service Notes Improvements
Approaching its fifth anniversary, Ventura County’s intercity bus system, VISTA, is boasting more comfortable buses for commuters and a more consolidated operation.
Starting July 5, riders on VISTA’s longer routes can expect wheelchair-accessible coaches with cushioned, reclining seats, reading lamps and air-conditioning. In addition, two firms that already operate some of VISTA’s routes will take over other routes from a third company.
Antelope Valley Bus/Coach USA, which currently operates VISTA’s two routes on the Ventura Freeway, will now carry passengers on three more routes--California 126, the east county and Cal State Channel Islands. Fillmore Area Transit Corp., which provides VISTA’s curb-to-curb van service in Fillmore and Piru, will take over service in Santa Paula.
VISTA was created five years ago to link cities’ individual bus systems. It was designed particularly for commuting workers and students. VISTA carries about 300,000 passengers each year.
