Salary Comparisons

I saw the ad that Ventura County’s attorney employees ran in the June 20 Ventura County section and would like to advise everyone who reads it not to be misled by the bar charts used.

A casual reading of these charts would lead you to believe that Santa Clara County’s senior attorneys make around 10 times as much as Ventura County’s, because the bar is 10 times the height. The fact is that they make 25% more. And the starting salaries in Santa Clara and Orange counties appear to be four times those of their Ventura counterparts, but are in fact 54% higher.

The locals are clearly at the lower end of the scale as compared to these counties, but it might be interesting to see comparisons to some other counties. Perhaps they still come out on the short end, but a more open comparison with less misleading charts would help.
