Turtle Rock residents pleaded with planning commissioners Thursday to keep a proposed hillside development from turning their streets into superhighways. “Our community for 25 years has had a rural character to it, and this amount of traffic they’re proposing will destroy that,” said Don Campbell, a member of Irvine Residents for Responsible Development.

Commissioners devoted the meeting to traffic issues surrounding the Irvine Co.’s development plans for the site south of Turtle Rock known as Planning Area 27. Irvine Co. executives said the new development will not significantly intrude on Turtle Rock because most of the new motorists will use Culver Drive.

But Turtle Rock residents disagreed, arguing that residents from the new development will use their road as a shortcut. The issue will return to the agenda July 29.
