Barbara Paxson and Harte-Hanks Shoppers Inc. were honored Monday with this year’s Leonard MacKain Friend of Education Award from the Brea Olinda Unified School District. The award, established in 1979, is handed out to an individual and a company in recognition of contributions to schools. Paxson and Harte-Hanks Shoppers helped campaign for the $27-million school modernization bond, passed by voters June 7. Paxson, who retired from the school board in 1998, headed the bond committee. Harte-Hanks Shoppers, publisher of the Penny Saver circulars, donated $1,000 and the printing for the campaign.
