Disney Internet Unit Adopts Privacy Policy

Share

Walt Disney Co. said its Internet division will no longer do advertising business with Web sites that don’t have privacy policies. The move is meant to put pressure on other online businesses to tell consumers what information is collected from them and how it is used. IBM Corp. and Microsoft Corp. have recently pledged not to advertise on sites that don’t post privacy notices. But Disney went a step further, saying it will also refuse to accept ads from companies without such policies. Most of Disney’s advertisers and partners already comply with the policy. Others will have until Oct. 1 to do so, said Steve Wadsworth, president of the company’s Buena Vista Internet Group.
