Gadzuric’s Injury Not Related to Tendinitis

The doctor who performed the operation on Dan Gadzuric said the freshman center’s season-long problem with tendinitis in both knees did not weaken the joints and contribute to the injury that will sideline him for the season.

“The only connection between the injury and the tendinitis is that the tendinitis will heal during the recuperation,” Dr. Matthew S. Shapiro said of Friday’s 90-minute surgery to repair cartilage in the left knee.

Gadzuric is trying to take that as some comfort.

“It’s very disappointing, it’s not a fun thing,” he said. “But I can see it as a positive thing. I’m just going to take a positive thing from it. I know my tendinitis will be better.”

Gadzuric, who attended Saturday’s game against Washington and got around on crutches, is scheduled to begin his rehabilitation in about six weeks. The injury is expected to be fully healed by the start of next season.

“He should be ready to resume normal activity in about three months and there should be no permanent effects from this injury,” Shapiro said.
