Coyotes Having Devil of a Time, Lose Again, 4-1

The resurgent New Jersey Devils extended an unbeaten streak to three games as they beat the struggling Phoenix Coyotes, 4-1, Sunday at East Rutherford, N.J.

The Coyotes, one of the hottest teams in the NHL early in the season, have have lost two in a row and seven of their last eight. They scored only nine goals in that span while giving up 32.

The Devils went 2-5-1 before the current 2-0-1 streak.

Washington 4, Pittsburgh 3--After blowing a 3-0 lead, the Capitals got a great goal from Andrei Nikolishin to win at Washington. Nikolishin took a stick in the chest from one defender and outraced another before stretching Penguin goaltender Tom Barrasso flat on the ice to score with 7:29 to play.

New York Rangers 6, Philadelphia 5--With Wayne Gretzky out at least two weeks because of a neck injury, Petr Nedved was front and center for the Rangers in a victory over the Flyers at New York, getting three goals an an assist. Nedved broke a 5-5 tie with a power-play goal with 6:28 left in regulation.

St. Louis 3, Chicago 1--Pierre Turgeon scored two power-play goals in the first period to lead the Blues at Chicago.

Buffalo 2, Vancouver 0--Dwayne Roloson, replacing the injured Dominik Hasek, recorded his second career shutout at Vancouver, Canada.
