Services for Police Chief Randall Gaston, who died last week, will begin at 9 a.m. today with a procession from City Hall, 200 S. Anaheim Blvd. A service will begin at 10 a.m. at Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove. Gaston died Thursday of a heart attack after collapsing during a jog with police officers.

The procession will include a riderless motorcycle, towed behind a police vehicle, in honor of Gaston’s former service as a motorcycle officer. From City Hall, the procession route is west on Broadway and south on Harbor Boulevard. A brief stop will be made at the Police Department, 425 S. Harbor Blvd., for a salute to the chief by officers, employees and the public. The procession will then continue south on Harbor, east on Ball Road, south on State College Boulevard, then west on Chapman Avenue to Lewis Street.

The public is invited to attend the service at Crystal Cathedral, 12141 Lewis St. Those attending should arrive by 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Pacific View Memorial Park, 3500 Pacific View Drive in Newport Beach. Instead of flowers, Gaston’s family has requested that donations be made to Anaheim Police Explorer Post 174, Anaheim Police Department Chief’s Office, 425 S. Harbor Blvd., Anaheim, CA 92805.
