Two broken wrists will sideline Dallas Maverick small forward Cedric Ceballos for the remainder of the season rather than the six to eight weeks anticipated.

Screws were inserted Monday evening to repair the fractures.

The 6-foot-8 Ceballos was hurt Thursday in a victory over the Denver Nuggets. Loren Meyer tossed Ceballos to the floor with both hands as the Maverick tried a layup in the final minute of the first quarter.

Meyer was assessed a flagrant foul and later fined $5,000 and suspended for one game.

Orlando Magic guard Penny Hardaway was fined $7,500 by the NBA for criticizing officials after a loss to the Miami Heat last weekend.

“I haven’t said one thing about the refs in my six years in Orlando, but I’m tired of it,” Hardaway said after he made only three of 14 shots and finished with 10 points. “This is really ridiculous. I go three for 14 or three for 16 and half of those shots are plays where I get fouled and it isn’t called. My stats are awful because of this stuff.”

Charlotte owner George Shinn has moved to Jupiter, Fla., fueling speculation he is planning to sell the team. If he does, the move to Florida could save Shinn millions of dollars, an accountant said. Shinn would not only avoid North Carolina’s capital-gains tax, but would dodge the state’s 7.75% tax on personal income. . . . Will Perdue, on the injured list since Feb. 17 because of an ankle sprain, was activated by San Antonio.
